How does the theme of loneliness affect the friendship and relationships in “Of Mice and Men?” Essay

The novel is set in California in the 1930’s. It is about migrant workers working on a ranch. The novel tells us about two lonely men who travel together. While they are together they carry something inside called â€Å"The American Dream†. It was a dream that one day they would make money and have a place of their own but it was hard because of The Great Depression. The Great Depression was a result of the Wall Street crash which meant economy declined and people worked hard but got low wages. Migrant workers had to travel from ranch to ranch for work and often stayed for a short period of time. Because of their circumstances, life was lonely. Migrant workers led a lonely life, but often factors in the 1930’s prejudice caused people to become lonely. Society discriminated people because of their race, gender, age and often simply because someone was different, which meant if you black, or too old and weak to be useful or if you were a women on a ranch, you could lead a very lonely life. This affects a number of characters in â€Å"Of Mice and Men† Furthermore, some characters isolate themselves from others. Carlson and Crooks do so, in order to protect themselves from the harshness of life. George and Lennie are two men who travel together trying to save money so that one day they can have their little place where Lennie could pet the rabbits and chickens and they can â€Å"live ‘off the fatta the lan†. To an extent George and Lennie understand each other emotionally but are physically different. George is described as having â€Å"strong hands, slender arms, a thin and bony nose†. Whereas Lennie is the opposite, he is, â€Å"a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws†. Steinbeck often compares Lennie to animals which reinforce the wild uncontrollable side of his character. Lennie is like a child in a man’s body. George gives a lot of care for Lennie so he doesn’t get in any trouble like he did in Weed. People thought Lennie was going to rape a girl. Lennie provides George with company and without Lennie, George would probably be an ordinary lonely isolated worker. George and Lennie have a relationship that is almost like father and son, George the father and Lennie the son. George needs Lennie by his side to keep him motivated but he does not like to admit it as we see in the novel, â€Å"If you don’t want me, I can go off in the hills and find a cave. I can go away any time†. George then replies â€Å"No look! I was just foolin’. Lennie cause I want you to stay with me†. George is much more dominant because he has all the control over Lennie and is much cleverer therefore he would know what to do in difficult situations, but on the other hand George is also lonelier because he looks after Lennie who is simple minded. George does not have a friend who is his intellectual equal and makes him even lonelier. â€Å"God a’ mighty, if I was alone I could live so easily. I could get a job an’ work†. Showing us there is an advantage and disadvantage with George having to look after Lennie. Lennie’s shortcoming leads George and Slim to make friends. George confides in Slim in manor that suggests he has not been able to talk with someone who understands him for some time. Migrant workers had a bad way to make relationships with women who they simply paid for sex and because they worked all day they were too tired to make friends or relationship. They moved from place to place which meant they did not have many possessions, just anything they could carry with them. Whit is a good example of the life of a typical migrant worker. He was lonely and found it hard to make friends or relationships with anyone, but when making friends he sees them as very important as his friend Bill, who he reads about in the magazine. Migrant workers went through that sort of lifestyle because they thought â€Å"The American Dream† was something worth working hard for so everyone did their best to accomplish the dream but as Steinbeck illustrates, many failed due to loneliness, they have no motivation or support from anyone so being lonely does not help at all. Slim thinks, â€Å"Everybody in the whole damn world are scared of one and other†. This might be because there is hardly any communication in the ranch. George and Lennie’s â€Å"Dream† was to own a ranch of their own and Lennie to pet rabbits and feed the chickens. It was the ambition that bought them and kept them together. Candy is an old man who has only his dog left in his life. He is not physically strong like the other men so he is useless in the ranch. He gossips a lot because he wants to make himself seem useful and make friends. He is isolated by the other men because he is old and so is his dog. When Candy wants to go in the bunk house he can not leave his dog outside because he loves it, so he brings it in but the other men kick him out. Carlson says, â€Å"God almighty that dog stinks. Get him outta here, Candy! I don’t know nothing that stinks so bad as an old dog. You gotta get him out!† Candy’s dog gets shot because it is old and worthless to the other men. Steinbeck shows us what life is like in the ranch by the dog. The dog gets shot but life continues. This influences George at the end of the novel, Lennie gets shot but life continues. Candy’s dog is a metaphor for Candy’s life and what might happen to him when he becomes useless. Candy is frightened he will lose his job in the ranch and end up with no money because he is old. He then tries to get involved with George and Lennie’s dream so he does not end up with any money. Lennie talks ambitiously about the dream and Candy says, â€Å"An’ they give me two hundred an’ fifty dollars cause I los’ my hand. An’ I got fifty more saved up right in the bank, right now†. He says he could be useful when they buy yhe place and feed the chickens. The dream makes Candy more confident after his dog had got shot. Curley’s Wife’s death made Candy give up hope on the dream because he knew things were not going to work. This happened before Curley’s wife was killed. As readers we feel sorry for Candy because he has nothing left in his life now. At the time of the novel everyone was prejudice and racist to Crooks because he is black. Crooks works in the â€Å"horse stable†. He is not allowed to step in the bunk house with the other men so he is separated and is forced to sleep in the â€Å"horse stable† with the horses. Crooks is independent, one of the loneliest characters in the novel and keeps to himself. He is bitter to other people because of the way he is treated. He is not used to socializing with others. We notice this when Lennie suddenly appears at â€Å"horse stable† to ask Crooks if he could check on his pup and Crooks replies bitterly, â€Å"Well I got a right to have a light. You go an’ get outta my room. I aint wanted in the bunk house and you aint wanted in my room†. Crooks carries this attitude because of all the racism that went on. He then says, â€Å"Cause I’m black they say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all stink to me†. Lennie tells Crooks about the dream and Crooks starts getting friendlier because he becomes interested on what the dream is about. All of a sudden Curley’s wife steps in and asks for Curley but then ends up talking about Lennie’s dream. Crooks sticks up for himself and tells her to go out of his barn or he will tell the boss to never let her in. Curley’s wife intimidates Crooks saying, â€Å"Well, you keep your place then, Nigger. I could get you stung up on a tree so easily it ain’t even funny†. It shows how Curley’s wife made Crooks bitter and all to himself again just when he started to have a bit of faith in people. Curley’s wife is the only women living in the ranch. We never know her name in the novel, she is only described as Curley’s wife and Steinbeck clearly does this to show she is his possession and she does not have any freedom. Because of this she lives a life of loneliness with no friendships with anyone other than Curley. The other women in the novel are Sussy, Clara and Aunt Clara. Susy and Clara both run a whorehouse each but Susy’s whorehouse is more successful. Aunt Clara used to give Lennie mice to pet. And What does this tell us about men and women in that society? Curley’s wife puts make up on and has her hair neat. â€Å"She had full, roughed lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails were red. Her hair hung in little rolled clusters, like sausages. She wore a cotton house dress and red mules, on the insteps of which were little bouquets of red ostrich feathers†. Steinbeck describes Curley’s wife with the colour red because red is the most emotionally intense colour and the colour of love and blood. It also symbolizes danger which comes at the end of the novel when Lennie kills her. Curley’s wife also stands in a very sexy manner as Steinbeck illustrates she put her hands back and leaned against the door frame so that her body was thrown forward and she then says, â€Å"You’re the new fellas that just come, ain’t ya?†. The men in the ranch call her different names. Candy says â€Å"Well, I think Curley’s married a tart†. George says, â€Å"Jesus what a tramp†. Whit calls her a â€Å"bitch†. She is a very lonely woman so she acts very sexy towards the other men in order to get attention because she has no friends. Curley imposes her loneliness on her. He doesn’t like her being in the ranch with the other men and so she is lonely because is not entitled to friendship. In the novel the men say she is a tart but I think she is just lonely and wants attention. As readers we feel a lot of sympathy for her. Curley’s wife had a dream too. She says she could have been a star because she met a man in the movie business. â€Å"He says he was gonna put me in the movies, said I was a natural†. She also says â€Å"Coulda been in the movies, an’ had nice clothes†, but her mother stole a letter she was expecting so she could be a movie star. She ends up marrying Curley and becomes a woman in a ranch affected by â€Å"loneliness†. Curley’s wife’s death is significant to the other characters because it changes everyone. George knew Curley’s wife’s death was a mistake by Lennie. Lennie got very scared and panicked. Candy was confused and did not know what was going to happen next. Curley wanted revenge. Lennie and Curley’s wife are both very lonely people affected by loneliness because they are both one of a kind, Lennie being simple minded and Curley’s wife being the only woman in the ranch. They are both two people in the novel that can not communicate with any one else well in the novel because no one can understand their unique personalities. Lennie and Curley’s wife find themselves alone right after Lennie killed his pup. Lennie did not want to talk to Curley’s wife because George said, â€Å"she is nothing but trouble†. Eventually they both start talking friendly amongst each other. Curley’s wife shares a secret with Lennie. She tells him something she has not told any one. She says, â€Å"I don’t like Curley. He’s not a nice fella†. We find out that she does not even like Curley so she’s even lonelier then us as readers thought. Lennie tells Curley’s wife he likes to touch and feel velvet and anything that is soft. Curley’s wife lets Lennie stroke her hair because it is soft. Lennie says, â€Å"Oh! That’s nice†. He gets carried away and starts stroking harder. Curley’s wife yells out â€Å"stop†. Lennie panics and covers her mouth and nose with his big hand. He accidentally kills her. Steinbeck shows us that the death of Curley’s wife and Lennie are both due to loneliness. As readers we are affected by their death because we can se what excess of too much loneliness can come to. We also feel very sorry for Curley’s wife because she could have had a much better life being a movie star but ended up in the wrong environment and now, dead. The life she led was unfair. We feel sorry for Lennie because he does not realise what he does and George has no choice but as a good friend, George shot Lennie. George also learnt that its better he shot as a favour of a good friend than to have Curley to kill him with revenge. As soon as George saw Curley’s wife’s body he knew Lennie had committed a big mistake. Candy lost hope in the â€Å"dream† because he knew things were not going to work out, whereas everyone else got their guns and wanted to kill Lennie. Steinbeck shows us that all the characters in â€Å"Of Mice and Men† are affected by loneliness in one way or another. As readers we learn from the novel that loneliness can lead to death. We learn we should not choose to be lonely. We are all alone in this huge universe so companionship should be treasured.

Wine Making

The differences between red and white wines include the kinds of grapes used, the fermentation and aging process, and the character and flavor of the wine. White wines are almost always made from white grapes, although they can be made from black grapes, since the juice in most black grapes is clear. When white wine is made, the skins of the grapes are separated from the juice when they are put into a crushing machine. After filtering etc, the wine is aged by storing it in stainless steel or occasionally oak containers and bottled after a few months. White wines, then, are made without skins or seeds and are essentially fermented grape juice. They have a light character and have crisp fruit flavors and aromas. They can be sweet or dry or somewhere in between Red wine is usually made from red or black grapes, although all the kinds of grapes usually have a clear juice. The process of making red wine is different from the one of making white wine. After the grapes have been in the crushing machine, the red grapes with their skins and everything sit in a fermentation vat for a period of time, typically about one to two weeks. . The skins tend to rise to the surface of the mixture and form a layer on top. The winemaker frequently mixes this layer back into the fermenting juice (which is called must). After fermentation is over, the new wine is taken from the vat. A little â€Å"free run† juice is allowed to pour and the rest of the must is squeezed into â€Å"press wine†. The wine is clarified and then is stored, usually in oak containers, for several months until it is ready to be bottled. The oak containers add additional wood tannins and flavors to the wine which help to intensify it and add richness to it. The result of this process is that red wines exhibit a set of rich flavors with spicy, herby, and even meaty characteristics. Late harvest ice wines are the exceptions in both hemispheres. The grapes are typically left on the vine to increase the sugar content and may be harvested up to a few months after the traditional harvest. An indigenous yeast fermentations starts by itself when wild yeast strains – originating in the vineyard – start fermenting. Wild yeast can take up to a week to begin the fermentation because their initial populations are small compared to an inoculated fermentation. But there is strenuous debate as to whether the wild yeast come in from the vineyard or are already present in the cellar on winemaking equipment.

Albert Bandura the founder of reciprocal determinism

Albert Bandura the founder of reciprocal determinism Albert Bandura, the founder of reciprocal determinism was born in Canada in 1925. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, where he developed the social learning theory. Bandura had certain strong beliefs on how psychological research should be done. He believed research should be conducted in laboratories where psychologists could control factors that determined behavior. Bandura has conducted many famous clinical studies which are the basis of the several books he has written. Bandura was also the creator of the reciprocal determinism theory which showed he believed that a person’s behavior both influences and is influenced by personal factors and the social environment. Personal factors are those that are based on a person’s morals, ethics ideas, and personality. The social environment consists of everything external to the self, which are other people, their beliefs, ideas and external items. Two brief examples of reciprocal determinism would be a person who is afraid of flying on airplanes will act nervous, scared, and out of the ordinary which would be the personal factor. This will cause the other people on the plane to become agitated and worried, making the nervous flier even more afraid. This shows how personal determinants, environmental determinants and behavioral determinants interact and influence each other. Another example would be of a man who cannot hold a job and therefore feels like a failure. His inability to hold a job is due to poor work habits and therefore influences employers to treat him bad until his behavior becomes terrible and is ultimately fired. Reciprocal determinism is affected by self-efficiency, which is a person’s belief about their ability to achieve a goal or an outcome. There are several ways to influence self-efficiency; performance accomplishments, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion and emotional arousal. Performance accomplishments are based on a person’s own experiences wh ich are past successes and failures. Vicarious experiences are based on the observations of others and their performance in executing a task. Verbal persuasion uses suggestions or self-instruction as a motivator. Lastly, emotional arousal is used by diminishing emotional arousals that are associated with decreased performance. http://www.learningsolutionsmag.com/assets/images/learningsolutions/061410/061410_f1.png A helpful way to think of reciprocal determinism is in the form of a triangle. At the top would be behavioral  determinants  and the two corners would be personal determinants and environmental determinants. Arrows go back and forth between each word showing that they are influenced by each other. The basic idea is that personal factors (cognitive and affective events), the environment and behavior all influence each other. This triangle aids to understand that humans are shaped by their environment and also shape the environment.    Self- Efficacy A person’s belief about their ability to organize and carry out courses of action needed to accomplish a goal is known as self- efficacy. Those persons, who are confident in their capability to execute a behavior, have very strong efficacy beliefs. These beliefs are influencing our personal emotional reactions and choices, motivation, and patters, therefore they are considered to have a very significant impact on our goals and accomplishments in life. (Bandura. A. Psychological Review. 1977).

Toyota Brand Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Toyota Brand Management - Essay Example Market analyst’s claim that if a company has a strong brands it has low employee turnover and a lower likelihood of losing its customers. The greatest strength of integrated branding is aligning the actions of the company with its strengths. This implies that the brand should reflect the company’s capabilities (Roll 2006, p.56). A second aspect of integrated branding that is beneficial to Toyota is customer preference. A brand driven company has the mechanisms to acquire knowledge about the customers needs. This information enables to produce in regards to the needs of the customer thus making them satisfied. Satisfied customers are loyal to a company, and this leads to significant sales. Brand environmental audit is essential in the branding process is various ways. The company intending to market a product will know the strengths and weaknesses of the target market. The company is also in a position to know the preferences of a market. With this knowledge, the brandin g manager strategizes on the branding process (Aggarwal 2008, p.129). The following is an analysis of the Asian Markets. The strength and the weakness of the Yen can produce strong implications on Toyota’s abilities to make sales. If the yen is strong, it gives citizens purchasing power in foreign commodities. This aspect is crippling to Toyota’s branding strategies as they experience reduced local demand. This is to show that the economic status of the region plays a critical role in determining market specificity. The brand a company intends to market, therefore, must pay attention to the economic situation. In this regard, a marketing manager will be careful not to launch an â€Å"expensive† product during an economic recession. The Economic situation in Asia is as a result of the political instabilities in the region. However, in recent times, the region has stabilized and there is a marked improvement in the economic sector (Bradley 2005, 71). Another impli cation on the Asian markets is the media. The positive or negative light shed by the media can make or build a brand. The Media has immense influence because most youth depend on the media for access to information. Globalization of the Media has wide spread roots in the Asian region. Chinese television programmes are a favourite in the region with more and more Asian countries paying attention to Cantonese pop music. There is also the internet whose advancement in the Asian region is rapid. People share information in chat rooms and social networking. The fun Vii is targets the youth, and Toyota has to ensure that the media gives positive criticism to this regard (Aaker 2011, p.33). The other aspect of the asian markets to consider is regionality. This can work for or against toyota in the sense that people can either prefer local brands or foreign brands. However, in the case of asia, locals, especially men prefer local brands to foreign brands. In comparison to U.S brands, Asia b rands indicate the mother company of a product and the place of the assembly to his effect. Regionality may indicate the popularity of a product peoples acceptance of the product and the priority they give it. Toyota has already established itself in the region, so this is not a likely huddle for them to jump over (Cayla & Eckhardt 2007, p.217). Consumer attitudes are extremely influential in determining trends in the Asian markets. The asian markets are particularly keen on technological advancements. The deep rooted culture of innovation plays a prominent role in the branding techniques and the design of the product. The Asian markets, in view of embracing globalisation, focus on the future prospects and not on the current events. Asian innovations

The Use of Imagery as a Literacy Device Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Use of Imagery as a Literacy Device - Essay Example The purpose of this paper is to analyze a single literary device depicted in Poe’s story. In as much as the story has a number of literary devices irony as imagery remains a dominant element of the work. It is quite ironical at the beginning of the story with a description of Roderick. Since he believes most of his family members are suffering from hyper reactivity he also believes to be suffering from the same disease. This is ironical as he concludes to be suffering from Hypochondriac according to family history. For instance, the narrator says, â€Å"I was forced to fall back upon the unsatisfactory conclusion, that while, beyond doubt, there are combinations of extremely simple natural objects which have the power of thus affecting us, still the analysis of this power lies among considerations beyond our depth.† (Poe 06) This was in support of the fact that he believed with no doubt the sickness was a family sickness. Consequently, the story reveals irony, which mak es the story fascinating as a disease, is only accorded one family. Despite Roderick and Madeline being a brother and a sister they are involved in an intimate relationship. For instance in the story, â€Å""Her decease," he said, with a bitterness which I can never forget, "would leave him (him the hopeless and the frail) the last of the ancient race of the Ushers." (Poe 16)This was a depiction of the relationship, which existed between the two, who were from a family of the ushers. It was, therefore, ironical for the two to engage in intimate relationship as this represented incest. This is evidenced in the book when he says,† And thus, as a closer and still closer intimacy admitted me more unreservedly into the recesses of his spirit,† In addition, a sulphureous lustle is displayed among the characters who perceive themselves as sister and brother. From this perspective, irony manifests itself clearly leaving readers wondering what type of characters the two were (Po e and Lanier 36). The house of usher is full of ironical happenings, for instance, Roderick buries her sister alive to fulfill his prophecy. According to his prophecy, the people suffering from hyperactive reactivity like his sister are supposed to get buried alive. This is ironical as to how one can bury another alive just because he feels she is sick. This is also ironical considering the incestuous relationship between Roderick and Madeline we expected him not only to show love to his sister as a lover, but also as someone passionate. It is expected when a person dies he does not resurrect; however, this is a common event in the story with Madeline resurrecting to meet his brother Roderick. This is an ironical representation of unnatural characters who portray a bizarre of menacing events. Distress and agitation fills the bizarre occurrence of events as Madeline struggles out of the vault full of her, own blood, this is a horrifying scene (Poe 56). Vampirism of the last part of t he story relays many messages to the readers who remain guessing what happened to the last duo of the family. In conclusion, irony becomes a major literary device used in the story dominating almost all the narration. The fall of the house of usher manifests a disappearance of the family, which mainly suffers from a disease, aroused hyper reactivity. Several instances depict irony staring with the intimate relation

A Critical Analysis of Own Video Work. Hush (2013) Essay

A Critical Analysis of Own Video Work. Hush (2013) - Essay Example The movie focuses on the illustration of the psychological disintegration of the lead character, Alice, who bereaves the death of her son, Jason. She appears obsessed with her son and while doing the chores in the course of her daily life, her attention goes back to her son. Her son’s memories haunt her through his possessions such as his guitar and mask, the room he had used, his pictures and even the â€Å"Spiderman Song† from his favourite cartoon. She also seems to be haunted by her own childhood, which reflects on the fragmented manner in which the thoughts about her son come to her. She lives alone and the movie makes no reference to her husband or any other relatives. Thus, it transpires that her son was the only person she loved and cared for and this explains her obsession for him. This obsession with her dead child destabilizes her present life and finally erodes her sanity and she ends up in a mental hospital. The movie eloquently portrays the disintegration of the young mother by relying purely on the actions of the protagonist within 4 consecutive days inside her house and using distorted images of her daily routines. In doing this, the movie seems to have drawn inspiration from many acclaimed directors of the horror and psychological thriller movies, especially from David Lynch and Sharon Maguire. The movie has several elements that conform to the concepts of horror and psychological thriller movies, including its theme, the sequences of action, setting, sound and music. Rather than revealing characterization through dialogue or plot development, the movie focuses on simple and routine actions of the protagonist to reveal her psychological condition, trauma and obsession with her son. It, however, follows a systematic approach albeit through the depiction of the changes in the character’s routine to illustrate how her behavioural pattern keeps changing within a matter of a few days, due to her disintegrating mental state. Thus , the movie, through illustrating the changes in the behavioural pattern of the protagonist portrays her mental state and shows how the obsessions can devastate the lives of human beings. The creative minds of people can sometimes follow a similar line of thinking and, as a result, one artist may perceive the same method for illustrating a particular in the same way that another has done. David Lynch is a highly popular and critically acclaimed director who has created many a masterpieces that have been celebrated as epoch making events in movie history. He is also known for his style of depicting the psychological traumas in individuals by showing distorted images from their daily lives to allude to their deteriorating mental states. The movie Hush also displays several traits that are typical attributes of Lynch’s style of representing the psychological problems in his characters. This can be evidenced from how the character in this movie displays the disintegration of her mind through the variations in her actions. The audience initially sees Alice in the movie when she does her make up in a leisurely manner, paying sharp attention to the details. She works on her eyelashes and cheeks in an unhurried manner and the cosmetics and other items are kept neat and tidy. Thus, the movie creates in the audience the understanding that things are normal for Alice and she is in a relaxed mood. In the next scene she is again shown tidying up the house, slowly dusting the surfaces and then she wipes the framed photograph of Jason, pauses to take a look at him, touches the picture and then moves off. But the memory lingers in her mind, as suggested by the tune of the lullaby with its ending note. Alice prepares tea and sits down and stirs it when the camera zooms to the door of Jason’

Exploitation of Oversees Labor by Multinational Companies Research Paper

Exploitation of Oversees Labor by Multinational Companies - Research Paper Example It is therefore not appropriate to say that the companies move to undeveloped countries to exploit their cheap labor as the country also benefit largely from new employment opportunities created and revenues that help the countries to develop (Drusilla K. Brown, Alan V. Deardorff, &Robert M. Stern, 2002) Nevertheless, businesses are bided by a code of ethics which are moral values that determine how individual, group organization and business transact their businesses. These can be applied to all form of businesses as they are universal and business must follow them in order to respect human dignity during transaction. Business being unethical means that it operates against the universal code of ethics which prevent it from immoral ways of gaining profits through exploiting human recourses. With the main objective of the business being making profits, it must ensure that it contributes and respect human dignity despite their states of need (Flanagan & Robert 2006, p.118). Labor in US has become so expensive for many companies to operate at a profit. As a result, many companies have moved its operations to other countries to countries where there are high levels of unemployment. Their move can be looked in two dimensions. One is that the companies are doing favor to the local society through providing them with labor. But, on the other hand it can be perceived as exploiting cheap labor. Cheap labor can be perceived to be labor which can be obtained at a low cost and is worth of no respect (Drusilla K. Brown, Alan V. Deardorff, &Robert M. Stern, 2002) One of such companies that exploit cheap labor overseas through opening up of production branches in developing countries is IBM. This is a company that mainly deals with software development which is an expensive sector when it is operated in United States. This has forced the company to open its branches in India as the level of running such a business is low. Due to high population the government has found it har d to be able to support the high population making majority of them to live below the poverty level. Some of the skilled personnel who have the same qualifications as those in United States are unemployed therefore; when such an opportunity arises they are ready to offer their labor despite being paid lowly. Despite the undeveloped countries having many employment challenges that hinder them from putting up laws and regulations that would prevent United States companies from exploiting overseas labor, the companies should not use this as an opportunity to make enormous profits on behalf of the poor citizens. This is because the company will be increasing the poverty levels in the country as after exploiting the resources, the money obtained is then transferred back to United States. ENG Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

ENG - Essay Example A speech community can also develop from sharing lifestyles, hobbies and interests. People are often members of more than one speech community as they traverse from childhood to adulthood. Multiplexity is a degree of the types of relationships among members in a community. It is an important aspect of speech communities derivative from observing the ways in which persons are related. Each of these communities has their identity, culture, rules of membership that an individual has to adapt to. This essay seeks to identify a person’s journey across and between speech communities from childhood to adulthood. At childhood, a child is born to a speech community, the family. It is the basic speech community that the child has to adapt to their rules of membership, language and cultures. The family members share a language pattern that the child must adapt to. From the brothers, sisters and parents a child develops this language. The child grows up learning the language pattern the f amily members teaches them. The family dictates the speech norms, and as a child, the individual grows knowing that this is the language pattern they have to follow. The network strength in this community is based on family ties. The strength is strong since the family has a close-knit nature. The family has a low multiplexity level since it includes members with bloodily ties. After the family, the child starts attending school. At this stage, the child witnesses many speech communities. This depends on their characters and the activities they participate in school. In class, there exists a speech community between the teacher, the pupil and fellow pupils. In this community, the members use a formal language pattern with simple vocabularies. The members also have formal ties that relate to the curricular. This speech community has a specific language pattern that all the members have to adhere to. The density of the network strength is loose between the pupils and the teacher. Howe ver, between the students, they share a strong network density. Multiplexity level in this community is regular in the sense that the teacher may be one of the pupil’s parent and a relative to a fellow student. At school, the individual develops a friendship with peers either in class or during extracurricular activities. This friendship is based on sharing a common interest and hobbies. The friendship develops into a speech community where a group of friends shares the same language pattern. The social network in this community is dense since the members share ideas and interactions at a regular basis (Wardhaugh 120). Multiplexity is also common since, in this friendship circles, the members can be related. In this community, there exists a speech norm that each member enjoys and understands. Although the members differ in personal characteristics, they share the same hobbies and interest. For instance, it is common that members of this speech share the same genre of music. This community can be from adolescence to early teenhood. From teen hood to adulthood, the individual meets up a new speech community. This is usually in institutions of higher learning. The first speech community is in class depending on the course the person is studying. This speech community is different from junior and senior school. At this stage, the vocabulary is complex, and the language is very formal. There exists a mutual relationship between the lecture or professors and

Patterns and trends in health among society Essay Example for Free

Patterns and trends in health among society Essay Gender Women’s life expectancy is higher than men; women typically live five years longer than men (Stretch and Whitehouse 2012. In 2002, life expectancy at birth for females born in UK was 81 years, compared with 76 years for males. This contrasts with 49 and 45 years respectively at the turn of the last century in 1901(Sikin, L undated). Another reason why women live longer could be because men tend to smoke and drink more alcohol than women in general. Men also take more risk than women; Women have less chance in getting cardiovascular disease, like heart attack and stroke. Women usually develop these problems usually in their 70s and 80s, about 10 years later than men, who develop them in their 50s and 60s (Blue, L 2008). Another reason why women live longer could be because men in their late teens and 20s go through something called ‘’testosterone’’ (Blue, L 2008). Testosterone is when the level of hormones is high and changeable, this can create dangerous behaviors. For e.g. they may not wear seatbelts; they drink alcohol and they can become aggressive. These kinds of behaviors can lead to higher death rates for males. Men also take risk more than women; expert claims that men take more risk, making them twice as adventurous and carefree than female. However in 2011 bps state that woman often takes more risk than men. Psychological Science a journal of the Association for Psychological Science has shown the reality of what type of person is prone to taking chances is more complicated than first thought. The study found that despite stereotypes, females sometimes take more risks than men and adolescents can be as  cool-headed as any other demographic. (3). they have found out that men are prone to financial gambles and women often take social risks. Another reason why women life expectancy is higher because men tend to do dangerous sports such as rugby, surfing, motorcycle racing and skiing. In 2002 statistic said that females born in the UK live up to 81 years, whereas males live up to 76 years. This contrast with 49 and 45 years respectively at the turn of the last century in 1901 (2). This is a table is from 2007-2009 about life expectancy in different parts of the UK. In the UK, males and females expect to spend more than 80 per cent of their lives in very good health or general health from birth. Falling to around 57 per cent at the age of 65 (1). In recent years males are taking care of their health more than females. However in today’s society it is believed that female’s health has improved more than males. Social class Statistic produced a biases picture. They believe that people in the lowest social class work in dangerous industries. This causes higher rates of illness. Therefore it is not the class but age and employment of people that causes high levels of illness and lower life expectancy. /http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1007 Ethnicity All ethnic minorities have higher rates of still births, perinatal moralities (death within 1 week), and neo-natal mortality (within 1 month). Ethnicity backgrounds tend to have shorter life expectancy. Children from Asian families have higher rates of getting rickets. Only Afro-Caribbeans and Pakistanis continue to show excess mortality throughout infancy (Whitehead 1992). Afro-carribeans more likely to be admitted to mental health units, men more so than women and more likely to be sectioned. Once there they are more likely to receive harsh treatment e.g.- electro-shock therapy, anti psychotics. How business works Essay Example for Free

How business works Essay Introduction In this assignment I will be producing a case study on large/medium sided businesses, showing of how business works. My chosen company is McDonalds. The following will be including in my case study: * A description of what the business does, its aims and objectives. * A description of the purposes and activities of human resources and any other three functional areas. * A description of how effectively different areas of the business communicate. * A description of how the structure of the business is different from another organisations structure. * A record of my sources information. McDonalds Restaurant OverView McDonalds is a large fast food chain of restaurants operating world wide, started in America and has outlets in other places such as, India, Cyprus. In many countries McDonald s sells variations of its food to cater for local tastes. They are also known for being multicultural because of the different cultural foods in their restaurants. Because of their huge volume of sales McDonalds has strong purchasing power with its suppliers and is therefore able to sell food very competitively. By the end of 2001 their was 1,184 restaurants in the UK alone. They had a target to get over 80 new restaurants opened by 2002, and that was achieved. By opening over 80 new restaurants they employed 4,800 new employees. ACTIVITY, AIMS OBJECTIVES (P1, D2) Main Activity The main activity of McDonalds is selling fast food. They aim to provide a customer service, there are 1.5 million employees working for McDonald restaurants in the 119 countries, which all have the same daily activities which involves the staff in greeting, serving and helping customers with any enquiries or problems. They are the largest food service company in the world, so its important that all employees work together to succeed their aim. Main Aim McDonalds main aim is to provide customers with a fast food service in order to obtain a profit for its shareholders. McDonalds are committed to conducting their business with the environment in mind. McDonalds mission statement is To be the worlds best quick service restaurant. This is being achieved through five strategies such as; * Development: Lead the quick service restaurant market by a programme of site development profitable restaurant openings. * Our People: Achieve a competitive advantage through people who are high calibre, effective, well motivated and feel part of the McDonalds team in delivering the companys goals. * Restaurant Excellence: Focus on consistent delivery of quality, service and cleanliness through excellence in our restaurants. * Operating Structure: Optimise restaurant performance through the selection of the most appropriate operating, management and ownership structures. * The Brand: Continue to build the relationship between McDonalds and our customers in order to be a genuine part of the fabric of British society. Objectives McDonalds objective is to be the bests quick service restaurant and believes and believes that this involves avoiding damage to the environment at a local and global level. The company aims to ensure that its operations today do not have an effect on the lives of future consumers. McDonalds is involved in an ongoing programme with the aim to improve the environment, they do this by reusable packaging and recycling. Functional Areas within McDonalds (P2, M1, D2) HUMAN RESOURCES The Human Resources department concentrates on employees who work for the McDonald restaurants. Human Resources department include managing staff and their welfare, so the safety of their staff is taking very seriously, this all comes under Health and Safety. Staff have to be careful not to use computers/tills for long periods of time because they can suffer from eyestrain, tiredness or stress. McDonalds is improving communication systems by installing panic buttons for the safety against violent customers. McDonalds employees have to work together to ensure a hazard free zone, by adhering to the health and safety regulations. McDonalds puts new employees on to a training system, to make sure if an accident happens which involves either a member of staff or a customer getting hurt, then the employee will be able to handle the situation effectively. McDonalds restaurants work to high standards, which meets and mostly exceeds the rules and regulations. The company always aims for the highest standards given in guidelines because of health and safety regulations and to expand the business. If McDonalds didnt meet the requirements than they would be closed down by the health and safety executives. The Human Resources department contributes to McDonalds activity by making sure: * They employ the right staff * Making sure the store is a hazard free zone These things contribute to the activity of McDonalds because without them they wouldnt be able to achieve their aim, so its important that all the different departments work together to succeed it. Recruitment, Training and Development When recruiting staff McDonalds look for people who have a positive attitude towards customers, themselves and other employees, and who are capable of delivering the highest standards of quality, service and cleanliness to our customers. Then potential employees are trained, promoted and treated on the basis of their relevant skills, talents and performance and without reference to race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, marital status, age and disability. McDonalds management development curriculum takes new recruits form trainee manager to restaurant manger. They have on-the-job training and open learning development modules, backed up with courses and seminars at the companys national and regional training centres. Hourly paid staff receive continuous on-the-job training by computer based training and other training materials. When employees complete their initial training staff members are awarded a basic certificate in food hygiene. Employees Below are the figures of the staffs gender and age status. By the end of 2000 McDonalds employed 49,726 members of staff: * 46, 207 restaurant crew * 2, 974 restaurant management crew * 545 office staff Health and Safety McDonalds always aims for the highest standards (and mostly exceeds), so they can achieve its aim and be the best quick service restaurant. If McDonalds didnt meet the requirements of the health and safety act 1974 than they would be closed down by the health and safety executives. The most common hazards which occur in a work place are: 1. Leaving the work place untidy and dirty 2. Leaving floors wet and stairs 3. Leaving wires to trial across passageways 4. Frayed carpet or loose tiles 5. Equipment just left all over work surfaces 6. Too many plugs inserted into only one electric socket The human resources department has to make sure that all health and safety regulations are met. If they are not met then it can be closed down, also if the restaurant is unclean then it could loose customers and wouldnt keep up their activity to be the best selling fast food restaurant. Customers wouldnt want to go to a dirty restaurant, where there are a lot of hazards going on such as; wet shop floor, bins over filled, dirty tables and a unclean kitchen area. If any of these hazards occurred in any McDonalds restaurants customers could become ill or hurt, which would result in McDonalds going to court or having to closed the McDonalds restaurant down. Management training includes coping with emergency situations that could arise in a restaurant. This is because it decreases the risk of people being injured or the buildings being damaged in the McDonald restaurants. When an accident has occurred the manager then has to write out what happened and then investigate on the matter. Training is the main priority to ensure the consistency of the restaurant operation, and the highest levels of customer service and care. Every McDonalds franchisee must successfully complete a training programme which takes on average nine months to complete. Trade Union The workers are represented by union of shop, distributed and allied worker. Job Roles In Human Resources Job Roles In the Human Resources function Carmel Flatley, Human Resources Director I am the human resources director of McDonalds and I have the overall decision of anything that happens in this department. I also have to make sure that the human resources department dont go over their budget. Paul Smith, Human Resources Manager I look after the whole HR department and staff, involved with industrial relations and trade unions negotiations, implementing the organisations HR policies. Gemma Wilson, Recruitment officer I deal with recruiting people, thats sending out application forms, making interviews for potential employees. Potential employees dont need to be experience in any way, because McDonalds is committed to training their staff and improving the skills of staff. Matthew Lawrence, Health and Safety Officer I deal with all health and safety matters, accident monitoring and staff welfare. That involves making sure that the shop floor is a hazard free zone for customers and clean and tidy, making sure the kitchen is clean enough to work in. I am well trained in first aid so that if any accidents happen, I will be their to help. I also have to deal with complaints and try to solve them. FINANCE The finance is one of the most important functions as they record all the money going in and out of the business, they give a budget for each other department to spend to make sure they keep their level of income and expenditure. They would regularly check the amount of money each department has spend and made to see if they are on target or not. If a department has gone over their budget then the finance dept would check to see if there is enough money to lend those more. So the purpose of the financial function therefore is to: * Keep all the financial records required by the organisation, detailing all the receipts and payments that have been made * Prepare final accounts from these records as required by law * Monitor the income and expenditure of different departments against their budgets * Provide continuous, up to date financial information for managers about business performance * Pay salaries and wages to the staff * Pay amounts owing to suppliers * Control the levels of debts owed to the company * Obtain additional finance when required, from the most appropriate source * Advise senior managers on the financial implications of major decisions These contribute to the McDonalds activity by being apart of providing a good customer service by, paying the employees their salaries/wages, if they werent paid they wouldnt be no staff or it could result in the staff withdrawing their labour. Production will cease and the employer will lose revenue. By McDonalds receiving more capital they can improve the quality of the store or products so customers would be more pleased of the in store environment or pleased of what they have purchase. It would result in consumers returning to the store because of the good service and also bringing more money to the business which will also achieve their aim which is to be the best selling fast food restaurant. Job Roles in Finance Department JOB ROLES George Mackay, Finance Director I am the finance director and I am in charge of the whole finance department. It involves information services, new product development, quality assurance and supply chain. I have to make sure a product which is purchased has the right quality that is expected from consumers, and then have to put a price to it. The most important part of the finance department is the cash flow which is the movement of cash going in and out a business. As a finance director I have to gives advice to senior managers on the overall decision on financial matters. And also as a director I have the last say with what happens within the finance department. Christopher Bateman, Financial Manager I looks after the finance function and the staff. Advising on financial resources. As a manager I have to make sure that all work as been done well. E.g. they have to monitor the income and expenditure of all departments to make sure they havent gone over their budget. So after the staff have checked their cash flow I then have to then go threw it to make sure nothing has been missed out. Derek, Daniels, Ledger Clerk I have to assist the chief accountant in the recording of all financial transactions. So where the money goes or comes in I have to make sure the chief accountant has recorded it all effectively. If any mistakes have been made I then have to correct the errors. Nita Negi, Credit Control Clerk As a credit control clerk, I have to assist the credit controller in checking the credit status of new customers and existing accounts, and also Reminding customers or overdue payment. PRODUCTION Production is all about the process of making something. Product life style shows the stages of a product or a range of products. If it isnt successful it goes to decline stage. The activities of the production department are listed below: * Obtaining the resources required to produce goods or provide a service * Organising the resources to produce the goods or provide the service in the most appropriate way For the activities to be achieve they must consider the aim of the business which is to be the best selling fast food restaurant, so they have to find the best quality of food that suits them and then order it but first having to keep on target and not going over their budget by ordering expensive items or ordering to much that it all cant be produced/sold. Another thing they must consider is if the resources can be organised to achieve the aims, doing this they have to think about selling it cheaper then their competitors or having an offer like buy on get on free. They do this so it sells more because people wouldnt to spend more they would go to the most cheapest place or giving the product an offer can be appealing to the customers. The production department contributes to McDonalds activity by finding the right products at the right prices. When good quality products are sold at low prices it pleases customers and make them want to return, it also brings in more people as when a customer is pleased with the type of service they have receive the consumer then tells several other people, which makes then want to try it out. Job roles in Production Job Roles in Production Steven Cornway, Production Manager Responsible for the entire production function and its operations. What ever goes on has to be checked and authorised by me. Kim Karenga, Production Planners Plan all production to maximise machine use and staffing, taking account of customer requirements. Chris Walker, Production Controllers To check all production is going to schedule. Ted Osborne, Designers I am responsible for the actual design of the finished product. So if I dont like the way a product has been designed I can make remendments. MARKETING The object of marketing is to make sure that the right product is made and potential customers are persuaded to buy it. Market Research can be carried out through either primary or secondary research. Primary research means asking someone on their views or opinions. A way of asking potential customers of their views or opinions is to make sure a survey, having questions about a certain item. After the survey has been completed they will then need to send out the surveys to potential customers, by either online, over the phone, by post or giving out surveys (in stores. Postal surveys dont have much of a response as the others do as it takes more time e.g. sending it back, so when postal surveys are concerned their will usually have to be some kind of incentive offered for completing the survey, so customers would be tempted to fill it out. Secondary research is known as desk research. It consists to looking up facts or figures in books, magazines, computer databases, company files. So secondary research is looking at information that already exists instead of creating your own. McDonalds keeps a large amount of information on their databases about their customers and their buying patterns, also companies buy information from government statistics. Product The amount of products the customer wants, the quality wanted, the features and the styling that are preferred, whether packaging is important, whether a guarantee or after sales service is required. Strategies Is a long term plan for future success or development. Place McDonalds are located on high streets or town centres. Marketing contributes to the McDonalds activity by market research (finding out what potential customers wants/needs), and improving existing products. Both of these improve the customer service, marketing contribute a lot to their activity to make McDonalds achieve their activity. All the functions work together to achieve it. The job roles of Marketing Job Roles in Marketing Matthew Howe, Marketing Director I am responsible for the overall marketing function and its aims and objectives. So if any ideas have been thought of they have to been checked with me before anyone goes ahead and makes a change. Ethan Farah, Sales Manager As a sales manager I am responsible for overseas agents and the achievement of sales targets overseas. David Frank, Market Researchers Market researchers have to find out consumer opinions on current and proposed goods and services, if this is not done than they could bring out a product which isnt doesnt sell a lot and a loose the money they put in to produce the products. Advertising Manager An advertising manager is in charge of advertising and liaising with agency staff over publicity campaigns. Advertising is one of the most important things in marketing as without advertising a product will not be known so their would sell as well as products being advertised. EQUAL OPPORTUNTIES (P3, M2, D2) In a work placement an employee has rights and responsibilities. Below are the rights and responsibilities of an employee. Rights as an employee Employees rights How to carry it out Having safe working conditions Making sure that the area your working is a hazard free zone, if not consult your manager or the human resources area. It is also your job to take care with anything you do to prevent any hazards happening. Responsibilities for an employee Employees responsibilities How to carry it out To be ready and willing to work Its always good to be full with enthusiasm in your work because it looks good for the company and make you happier in your work To give a personal service Your contract will contain you main job roles, but its always good to provide your own service like putting your ideas into your work, smiling and just any other little thing. To treat others how you would like to be treated If youre rude and dishonest than fellow staff would treat you the same. Its important to work as a team and communicating well with other people, this can only be done if you treat people well. To work towards the objectives of the business Working towards the objectives of a business could look good on you and on the business, if the employer see s you are working hard than it could result in the employee being promoted. To work in good faith Working in good faith consists of being honest, if youre honest it again can see that youre trustworthy and could get promoted. But yet if your seen lying than you could loose your job. COMUNNICATION (P4, M3, D1, D2) Most organisations have different ways of communicating, communicating is one of the most important things in a business, because without communicating you cannot run a business effectively. They are all types of communicating, below is a list of ways of communicating within a business. * Meetings * Group discussions * Tele phone * Memos * Emails * Draft letters * Reports * Faxes There are two main methods of communication which are oral and written communication. Oral communication could be either face to face or the over the phone. If you cant get threw to the person you are calling then you can leave a message which is still oral communication. Written communication could be sent by mail or transmitted electronically. This can include letters which is the most common one, text messages on mobile phones or notices on notice boards. Below are the advantages and disadvantages about oral and written communication. Oral Written Advantages 1. Its a fast way of communicating because you dont have to write things down. 2. Its cheap, as if you phone someone you would have to pay for the phone call. 3. Immediate feedback, you dont have to wait ages for someone to reply back to you as you would in a letter. 1. Writing a message can be retained for future reference. 2. Writing a message can also be copied for other peoples uses. 3. Creates a distance between sender and recipient useful for difficult communication, e.g. bad news. Disadvantages 1. Clear Speech, you must speak very clearly so that other people can understand you, but yet when you write a letter people can just read it in their own pace. 2. Long or complex messages can be forgotten. 3. You can be easily distracted while someone talks to you, and then you could forget the whole message they just told you. 1. When writing a letter it can take time to write, while if your talking to someone its faster.] 2. Keyed in documents need to be skilled and produced quickly and accurately. 3. Delivery can take time, or could be delayed. McDonalds functional areas communicate with each other by a system called Intranet which was launched in 2000. The McDonalds intranet provides a fast and up to the minute source of information for the McDonalds restaurant management and office staff. McDonalds external communication is dont by a system called McNews which was launched in 2000. McNews is a award wining magazine which was published monthly for all restaurant staff, then in 2002 McNews was re launched as MDUK and is now a lively focused magazine. MDUK has activities and events from restaurants around the country. MDUK is a showcase for best practice, recognising individuals outstanding practices and achievements, as well as highlighting internal and external awards. Apart from the Intranet and MDUK, McDonalds also has other ways of communicating within the business, they are listed below. 1. An email system operates in all offices and company owned restaurants 2. Regular staff communication sessions are held in the offices 3. Employee satisfaction surveys for both office and restaurant staff are held annually. 4. Meetings are held monthly. 5. Memos send daily An email system is to contact anyone within the business or outside the business, the email system is a fast and easier way to contact people. The email system is used by most companies and general people all over the world. Staff communication sessions are held to improve of employees communication skills. This is important because communicating with customers is one of the main things to do. Employee satisfaction surveys are handed out every year, so employees can write how they feel working in the McDonalds restaurants. This is a good thing to do because its important to keep the staff happy as it motivates the staff to work harder. Meetings are held every month to discuss the McDonalds performance. They also talk about how much they are making and see what can be improved with the money. McDonalds talks about new ideas and try to change or promote things that is not doing so well. This is a good way of communicating as you get to talk face to face to see the expressions on each other faces and its faster as you dont have to way for a reply if you do if you was writing an email. Memos are used daily in all of the departments. Sales manager might send a memo to human resources manager and ask if he has found a sales person. Memos are used daily because they are important little messages, and its also a fast way of sending.

Author M.Prasad suggests that Hindi movies structures it ethics into cultural spectrum into social and political contexts. The speciality of Bollywood is content of stunt, dance, traditions and social values. The significance of historical factors and Post colonial and nationalism is main core of Ideology in Bollywood (1998). The Indian audiences in Bollywood is mostly very emotional and very much tempted to film and films stars such like they involved in star promotions, star clubs. Most of films from Bollywood is represents the institution mode of idealization and male gazes with showcase of female gaze by glamour and there is shade of dramatically contexts. The promotion of movies, Ad-banners, posters in wall ,advertising and product ambassadors of stars, which emancipates and makes the feel to Citizens about t he movies in culture of India (Rangwala, 2007). Interestingly to say Author Umesh Gupta a vice president of whistling woods Film school has analysed a Bollywood into the musical culture that I accept the authors arguments The familiar way of Human values and emotions is reason of life The popular culture of India people in society for expressing excitements or to mourn Indian peoples use to consume music and songs. Author Gupta mention that is music in Bollywood to refresh and boost audience mind which keeps you hale and happy and songs are effective pattern process and otherwise it is vague important for vanish of emotional story. Furthermore author pointing that in Society of India the culture and social subjects are strongly effective and exposed in Hindi films. In dramatic condition of story music and dance are Become essential content in Bollywood. of course that is the progress of Hindi movies ideology (2011). The ethnicity is somewhat structured and it qualitatively theorised in the perspective manner. The focus Bollywood is attracts the audience and makes them entertain with songs, dance. And the thing is to say the Bollywood dance is the famous. Author states The paradoxes of Hindi movies is a fragile and keeps you mind refreshing and active method. The concept and narration of movie will focus into many stories which will compose and arise into many characters but not real. The classical narrative films in Bollywood are in gender and race spectatorships in 1940s to 60s. In India there is very much bad beliefs in Hinduism and the worst religious beliefs in Hinduism targeting female theories. Now we are saying that child abuse but in early in India there was child marriage in Hinduism which the marriage is been soon done by age of 12-15 for both genders ridiculous factors. And sathi it means if husband dies in Hinduism the women to will be burnt with husbands dead body. These are worst s entiments and beliefs in Hinduisms. And the movies against religion aspects of Muslims and Hindus. This is because of psychological behavioural beliefs and sensitive of people in religion in India. (Bose, 2006. If we see Bollywood films in early the star on male gaze is mostly structured in dramatically and postcolonial period. The classical narrative films that time create the social and cultural context in society. And also the films like Mother India, Mughal -e- azham and Gandhi are some films which make revolutionary and classical narrative melodrama. The stars and sequences will create an emotional impact of films. The spectatorships for films and media are promotions of social and political awareness. If we see Bengali film industry mostly all films are in melodrama and focus the low class society and realism in the movie. The noted and famous director Satyajit ray films the stories will be targeted the poor society and the films are artistic type. And he was the first Indian director nominated for Oscar by his direction ethics .Institution mode of representation in Bollywood films are very much structured and consumed foreign products nothing other than Hollywood (Hayward, 2006). The domain role of international affairs in India in early time is assumed and consumed in Bollywood till now. The consistency of Bollywood films in early time was very much criticised in modernistic values. The melodrama films that time is very much involved social spectatorships and ideology of making own style in Bollywood. Then after rajkapoor films the Bollywood makes it style into bit commercial fictional type of films means commercial cinemas (Bose, 2006). Even though there is story the star makes their own identity style in films. (Virdi, 2003) says about Bollywood That feminism is been slowly attracts with glamour sexuality to theorise the subject of voyeurism and male gaze. The India which the films mostly rely on the melodramas in early because of political consistency and British leave in India at 1947. The films mostly exposure of patriotism and slogans in films like Bharat ma ki jai, jai hind. So the films storys against British rule movement and making awareness about patriotism. And mostly the subjectivity is historical construction to structure the ideology in Bollywood industry. So (Bose, 2006) explains the perfection and describes about how Bollywood makes its nationalism and social reforms and formulas implemented and manipulated in Bollywood. The topic interestingly describes the Bollywood cultural critics and ethics of movie values and personalities from past. How the politics influenced from Bollywood pre and post independence. How the Bollywood synchronize and analyse the audience and brief historical construction from past. The source of (Bose 2006) gives the idea about Bollywood industry into social and political construction for this research project. Further from analysis from this project focus on the narrative and melodramatically ideas and perceptiveness of Bollywood in global level. NARRATIVE, MELODRAMA OF BOLLYWOOD The films of melodramas are mostly on based on true realistic Storys and incident and some of them are most controversial. The spectatorships is based on mythological and true narration that time. But now slowly the narrative style into commercial Masala likes presentation of films and dialogues delivery from stars The body language of stars and performance is very praised by audience that time. The films that in mid 80s are targeted the male gaze and spectatorships. But if we notice in deep concentration the performance will be mostly inspired from Hollywood casting style. The theory of classical narrative in Bollywood is very much modified and changes into global perceptiveness because of audiences preferences. Spectatorship of Bollywood industries are the realistic film subjects and exposure of sensibility and personal appetite in this space, from one person to another and screening to another of various films response to each film in the space of cinematic experience in ambiguity . It is often difficult to grasp the relationship between the expressive and the narrative way of explaining any films. Let us consider Bollywood movies, wherein it is assumed that song sequences depict the expressive function whereas either the picture or the dialogues depict the narrative part (Hsu). According to Gregory Booth (2000), The music scenes of the Hindi cinema visually and verbally express that which Indian social norms would otherwise define as in expressible. it looks like Booth is readily bridging the gap between film aesthetics and Indian social reality. in this assertion the spectatorship of the Bollywood movies how we comparatively varies the non music and music scenes in the films are subsumed and socially contexts in mediating role(2000). The melodrama is the essential in Bollywood those days. Most of movies is song are narrative and montage shots which is meant by symbolic shots we say is mostly structured in Bollywood. The contradiction of melodramas are with some commercial elements is somewhat creating emotional impact to audience in from past but now it different the movie mostly follows the feminist and western theory. For example Mehboob khan who took the mother India a classical narrative films have been change the Bollywood film industry into realistic and classic art type films with the story is about revolutionary and poverty in India. The story focus on the Radha (Nargis) who is struggling from political influence and economical situation of family and revolutionary during independence time.. in early margins actress was fascinating and everlasting in Bollywood films and mostly attracted by audiences. The is sketching of narration is working good and punctuated in some gruelling parts in the dance concepts in Bollywood movies. In post colonial India from rapid transition period of early 19 centurys the Mother India is melodramatic All times and Directors magnum opus. The conveying of tradition, family, patriotism and love is most importance and enthusiastic in south Asian cinema. The movie focus about struggling of Peasant family rich and vivid in Indian arts natures and the musics framed into it. The movie Mother India is melodramatic in Indian cinema all time. The movie three hours will treat you one of best movie in Indian cinema ever made and its too demanding among audiences in Bollywood for those who passion in cinema theorys. According to Bollywood industry The ethnicity contexts are very much remorseless in some religious aspects in melodrama if we see like to say that in French cinema in mid and present period of time the modernization and French revolution is increase of modernism which is manipulated in melodrama. Early the narrative and melodrama which is targeted on feminist theorys such as focusing on women sentiments beliefs and some social evolutions. The popular culture and consumer culture which is mostly would attract the audiences. During the Second World War 1950s the cinematic melodrama is noted and preoccupied Bollywood makes an attempt to sense of modernism and spectatorships and family subjectivitys (M.Prasad, 1998). The modernization and social and political contexts are well said in Bollywood narrative films. For example film Jodha Akbar this historical and romance narration film in 16th century is about a Mughal emperor Akbar (Hrithik Roshan) who is in love with Jodhabai (Aishwarya Ra i) Hindu girl and raj put princess gave birth to marriage and love and political aspects in the country and rule between both religious communities. In this three hours narrative film the spectatorships of cultural and modernism and realism is well structured and criticized. This narration film perfectly sketches the male gaze in absolute and traditions of cultural dominance and also classical narration with songs. The movie is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker director of Lagan and swadesh which is very much criticized and the three of his films mostly focus on narrative spectatorships about Indian cultural and traditions. And the music narration is by academic award winner A.R.Rahman which is everlasting classical music in films. The music which brings out the patriotism, religious aspects and the cultural dominancy in three of the films. So narrative films in Bollywood are mostly structured with songs in perspective manner. REALISTIC AND COMMERICAL (MASALA) MOVIES The Masala (Mixed of spices) film is the most mainstream films not only Bollywood mostly attracting audiences through songs, dance, comedy and love. This is because the audiences psychological impacts and development of business consistency and contexts and also huge hit of success and super dooper hit . For example I like to say that movie which makes high debate among audiences in India Dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge (directed by Adyta chopra and produced yash chopra stars is Shahrukh khan, kajol and amrish puri the movie is still in running in theatre due to fabulous songs and romantic love story. This films has not only in India also has mega hit reach in global level. Which makes a high level income not only from production side also it attracts the whole Bollywood industry. Not only Dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge but also movies like Kuch kuch hota hai, lagaan are some famous Bollywood movies which is mostly attracted to global audiences. The team of yash chopra, aditya chopra and Shahrukh khan are structured to mass audiences after the huge hit of these films . Not only in film production also has music production had the songs reached to global level (Sarkar, 2008). The music of this film has become like a national anthem for audiences the period of time in 90s when the film releases. The movie breaks records in Bollywood industry. But realistic films like Black, Taare zameen par, are also some movies which also become good response from audiences. (Nita, 2007) Author mentioned that But hypothetical to say about audiences psychological statement about movies. Most of Bollywood audiences have passion on commercial masala films because of cultural identity. So most of films directors like Karan Johar, aditya chopra and many more rely on the commercial elements in films for making good movies in Bollywood also for development of business and make cultural and social contexts in India . Realistic movies is nothing but a movies which has social message with value of story which characters is feels like normal costume and shade of some real feel in it. For example if we see directors Shyam benegal, sanjayleela Bansali , Ashutosh gowariker or Madhur ba ndharkar films are mostly 90 percentage of realism is structured in it. The voyeurism is very much claims and recognized and criticised in the both gender spectatorships in their films. But the narrations of films are mostly through songs. The half percentage of story is narrated through in songs in some of both realistic films and commercial masala films. And in commercial cinema mostly the art direction which is production design is highly expensible set in the Bollywood movies. The panoramic Indian Bollywood cinema slowly changing its ethic into global casting in commercial cinema is targeted on the both gaze of audience. Interesting factors about a Bollywood Author Madhava Prasad states in the book ideology of Hindi movies analysed the consumption of audience that Mostly realistic films in Bollywood are much idealized into classical methodology but present it is modifying and manipulating into global debates. The realism in Bollywood is also has 10 percentage of commercial aspects in some Bollywood films such like a songs sequences or comedy. For example if see In Film Fashion directed by Madhur bhandharkar was very much portrayed in realistic with commercial element songs. The story is about a girl who entered has passion and ambition to become a miss world entered into fashion industry and how she was coping well into industry, like her struggle, happy and sad in this industry falls in love with designer and models and how she overcome from chaos and succeeds. This story focuses into realistic happening in fashion industry and targets the real characterization of women in fashion industry with melo dious songs and romance in it. I would like to say that Hindi movies are mostly rely on songs, music into narrating of story. It is commercialistic identity of Indian cinema that audiences preferred in it. This is because comparatively like to say about mostly our mythological tales like Mahabharata, Ramayana Hindu mythology tales there is commercialism in the mythology tales. As a present generation we dono whether there is a Real tales about Rama (god) is there fall in love with sita (Goddess) and villains like Ravana a villain character who traps the goddess and Rama as protagonist who saves his wife sita (godess) depict as heroine and destroy villain from tale which happened a decade ago before 1000 BC. But it is true. Tale categorise of Sad, happy, love and of course lyrics of good classical music in it such as praising love a divine and praising hero like that. Still hindu people has superstious beliefs the story and depict the chareters as a god. (Virdi, 2003) So commercialism is categorised from early of generation so this strategy rule is followed in Hindi cinema till now like hero falls in love with heroine and romantic imagination songs and fights with villains character like Ramayana tale . But realistic movies have different opinions in it. The feminist theory in Bollywood is mostly in voyeurism of female spectatorships in the Bollywood representation and spectacle. From Early Rajkapoor to Amitabh Bachan the commercial is very much structured into high level spectatorships to audiences consistency (Virdi, 2003). But most of the movies in Bollywood if we see the most essential and importance given to male gazes such as Hero is the only man to do extraordinary things and attracts opposite sex heroines by his heroism, body language, costumes and he fight for her and saves from villain. The male dominance is very much focused in major Bollywood films not only Bollywood all Other Indian cinema too. Most of Hindi commercial films are based on the imaginative spectrum of ideology. States about realistic movie in Bollywood that in a website UTV motion pictures Producer Mr Ronnie screwala states that The stars like Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh bachan, Saif Ali khan will modifies into different scenario opinion and options together sensed About a movies would have its good promotions and response would work in the box office.meanwhile the other Bollywood celebritys reluctant and looking forward for formula movies but at present the innovative aspects like scripts pull the audiences to the movies by thier promotions for example the option of choosing the scripts makes Shahrukh, amitabh bachan, Abhishek special kind of work involvement (Singh, 2006). so obviously thats the Idea and shaping the audience mind to see what the newer things and aspects. but major players are in motive of making money instead making good films targeting international markets making commercial movies not real movies so the stars are not willing and less courage to do innovative script like this. so the star value does the good ethics from past but now Bollywood is slowly changing. Due to decreasing of view on scripts and most film personalities didnt have the potential aspects going beyond the realistic approaches and bit fear to do a innovative good real cinema so they indeed of making formula commercial masala movies. so There is no any strong impacts or real cinema from previous directors so they are involved in making a commercial masala movies and star value movies and of course It is very easy to get casts and crews directors, producer who are focusing on cultural and fictional movies. so audiences are obvisolly focusing on this tasteful manner.Th e present things slowly changing towards to making good realistic movies and Bollywood industry had developing in into many revenues and from international markets from present conditions. so the things like long conerversation and presentation and performance of stunts , dance have slowly modified into a innovative screenplay. The realistic things are appreciated in movies.. So from analysing this qualitatively the producer speech that his view about audience is very much obliged to Bollywood industry it seems. And his taste of realistic movies in Bollywood like how oringality is been sketched in the Bollywood films and how star have been coordinate and opinions on the realistic movies. There is strong social message in Bollywood realistic movies which has the view about contexts of socialism and voyeurism of both gender spectatorships represents in hindi films. But some producer will prefer commercialisms in Bollywood because of to increase the economical status and revenues by producing commercial Masala films with production star value films for example films has big star in it and has generically value of songs, stunts and punch dialogues from stars and songs location aboard like Australia, America. And most of the producer will dependent on stars and produce high budgets films to increase financial status and trade in Bollywood industry. this is fro m early to present generation (Sarkar, 2008). But in current generation it slowly modifying and developing and films focused on originality storys and stars like Amir khan, Shahrukh Khan, Abhiskek Bachan come forward for realistic films and taking Bollywood into international level. But major of audience in India still have a passion on commercial cinema but it bit modifying. In my opinion both commercial and originality is cinema is important. of course We should take any originality storys into commercial we because there should be independent identity for every films. So overall conclusion the real and commercial films in Bollywood is hypothetical judgement from audience and Bollywood should focus on realistic movies and Indian government and directors and Bollywood celebritys should come forward in production of good realistic films not only in Bollywood also in Indian cinema. So next we are going to see about cultural identity of Bollywood cinema and in India with example one movie analysis related to theme and feminism portrayals and cultural identity analysis and research in Bollywood films with social contexts. 2.4 GLOBAL BOLLYWOOD AND ITS AUDIENCES The Bollywood has the individual reputation among other cinema in not only in India also in global level. The Bollywood has some high influence and passion among some global audiences by its identity of culture, genre, particularly songs, dance and celebritys in it. The perceptiveness of global audiences was very much structured in the commercial spectatorships of Bollywood films. Bollywood has massive global audiences particularly for music. So these types of quality films show the Bollywood into global reputation among audiences such like value of stories and songs. And mostly songs, dances reach the Bollywood into global level. I would like to Thank Mr Danny Boyle director of film Slumdog Millionaire which makes a Indian music director Mr A.R.Rahman to win 2 Oscars and take an Bollywood industry into global level. The songJai ho reach to global audiences to win Oscar. The movie which is nominated to oscar second time was Lagaan2001 which makes Bollywood into excitement the story f ocus on british rule in India. Then Movie Devdas2002 high budget film in Indian films which is romantic melodrama. Here to know that RDB is the movie entered the Golden globe award in year 2006. This is first individual mainstream movie to golden globe awards. This is really proud of every Indians. And A.R.Rahman is first Indian music director to get an academy award in India. The Bollywood is very much focused on international market to develop its social and economical contexts. Not only Bollywood movies also the celebritys and personalities who is reaching global films for example Indian actresses And yesteryear miss world Mrs Aishwarya Rai Bachan who acted in many foreign films like pink panther, Pride and prejudice and Mr Ben kingsley a British actor who acted in film Gandhi . So these international exchange are some examples how Bollywood reaching into global level. Bollywood is slowly modifying and changing formulas and entering into global level market and in many film festivals and awards. Majorly, Indian film industry especially the Bollywood has immensely developed the production rate value. Also the depth in value of the film has been depticatedly improved parallel to the cinematography and the box office. The popularity among the Indian cinema has been dramatically improved within the film industry that let to the pride which is clearly visible in the U.S and in Europe. As for the above, the movie business is rapidly changing by the Hollywood which is having an economical change towards the film industry. The current cultural globalization is the revrse process that leads to the formation of a wuality Bollywood industry and the context so its now just one way traffic. In the Indian film industry the economical trading market was embedded in the west as the values were derisive, additionally that made way to the maximum profit in the Bollywood industry worldwide. In the business i.e., the cinematic trade has some tricks to be followed which may makes gain or lose some value. In overall global Bollywood trade the UK and US has the good response in Hindi movies industrys. We can say it is because of passion those who have cultural heritage and sharing. And in 19th century and present century most of Bollywood films are shooted and taken in London, Australia , America the films like Salaam Namaste, taken in Australia, Story about a couple and My name is khan in America and many more. So this shows how Bollywood influence into international criteria and its contexts. Even the culture in Bollywood movies to change into western cultural debates by most of English dialogues, costumes, lifestyle. So this shows relationship among global audiences. and in TV programme about international market in Bollywood about that I strongly to say Bollywood is slowly changing into global audiences by titles, by English lyrics and songs. For example 3 idiots, Blue and My name is Khan which is best to recognise for international audiences. And also songs in western culture and English lyrics in it. Karan johar the director of My name is khan is the director to involve global culture in Bollywood cinema and his most of his movies will shooted in America, Australia. His movies mostly rely on western culture. Not only karan johar from all directors in Bollywood focusing on international audiences to have high consumption of international market to take Bollywood into global level audiences. So this shows the exposure of how Bollywood have been structured into global level markets and audiences. The Bollywood has the special focus of cultural identity and patriotic contexts in movies like said before topics. In this topic the going to see analysis of how the Bollywood structures the cultural and patriotic diplomacy with analysis of one film and a discussion of one sequences and with institution mode of representation and spectatorships and comparatively research and analyse the film with any one or two films. And overall film contexts and research how the film reaches to global level. Most of moral is structured cultural and patriotic films in Bollywood. But the American culture (Americanization) which makes the in major young peoples in Mumbai and many states in India into deep controversial and conflicts things for Example if we our Indian culture in olden days. The traditions of India like Mumbai, Delhi, the female is mostly family oriented and dependent on male spectatorships for example the dress codes are chudithaar, sarees, pyjamas. But its totally changing now into A merican and global culture (Pendukar, 2003) . The social contexts in India are very much pleasant even after the independence after British rule in India. The author Bhaskar sarkar analysed the cultural Bollywood in journal of Melodrama of globalization in cultural dynamics that time the culture was very much structured into socialistic and communistic and patriotic contexts. The female and male both gender has the respective mode and represent the best aspects and contexts in 70,s 80;s and 90;s but present generation it is totally change into American culture and globalization. I strongly to say the Americanisation and Hollywood representation is very much effective and dominant into Bollywood (Sarkar, 2008). This is due to exchange of international perceptions, and many socio economic developments. Mostly IT (information technology) industry has involved in every affairs of Indian culture, consumer and popular culture and its dominant and change and strongly dominant to many aspects. Such as now present generation both male and female a
